Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure the accessibility of www.sisley-paris.com/en-GB, there may be some limitations.

The site is constantly evolving. Some features are undergoing impact testing and are therefore only available on a temporary basis. In addition, a significant portion of the site will be reworked in the near future. We are focusing our efforts on optimizing the accessibility of future features, which explains why some known limitations have not yet been addressed.

Below is a description of the main difficulties identified and potential solutions. Please contact us if you encounter a problem that is not listed below.

Known limitations for www.sisley-paris.com/en-GB :

  1. Videos: No audio description on tutorials and promotional video clips, as it appeared that audio description was not able to provide a satisfactory equivalent of the visual content. We are working on providing transcriptions instead. Please contact us if you would like us to prioritize a video of your choice.
  2. Animated promotional content: The playback mechanism for certain animated promotional content poses various accessibility issues, such as controlling playback and sound with assistive technology or a keyboard. These issues are currently being investigated with the solution provider.
  3. Images: All images on the site have an alternative that corresponds to their function. However, due to the large number of images on the site, some alternatives may be incorrect.
  4. Graphic elements: Some graphic elements are not detectable with a screen reader, such as the symbol indicating that the account connection is active. These issues have been identified and are being corrected.
  5. Links: Some links are not optimized for use with a screen reader. Extensive work is underway to improve this aspect of the site.
  6. Contrasts: Some contrasts are insufficient due to the brand's specific graphic charter, or the superimposition of text on photos whose composition and colors vary depending on the communication campaign. To minimize this issue, we are paying close attention to the use of color schemes in our new content, and a solution to adapt the display is currently being developed. In the meantime, we invite you to use your system's accessibility options to choose the color scheme that best suits your needs:
    • In Windows 11, change your display in Settings > Accessibility > Contrast themes;
    • In Windows 10, change your display in Settings > Ease of Access > High Contrast;
    • On Mac OS, select a different color scheme in System Settings > Appearance.
    • On Android, change your display by going to Settings > Wallpaper & Style, then select Color Contrast (note: may vary depending on your device manufacturer);
    • On iOS, change your display by going to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Increase Contrast.
  7. Rich interface components: The site offers many interface features developed for the needs of our graphic charter and an improved user experience. Significant work has been carried out to make these elements compatible with the latest assistive technologies, taking into account all usage situations. However, there is still room for improvement in certain areas; those that have been identified are currently being analyzed with a view to correction.
  8. Input device support: All features are designed to be usable with a keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen. They can all be accessed with a single point of contact. The Esc key can be used on most menus and dialog boxes to close them. We also pay close attention to the management of keyboard cursor movement, whose position is clearly visible in the vast majority of interfaces. However, the most complex interfaces may not be fully optimized at this time, particularly on the order completion pages. These issues are known and are being analyzed with a view to correcting them. Besides, certain additional elements from third-party suppliers present difficulties when using the keyboard.
  9. Skip links: At present, the site does not offer an integrated solution for directly accessing different areas of the page using the keyboard. A feature is currently being developed and will be rolled out shortly. In the meantime, we invite you to use standard keyboard navigation shortcuts (Arrows, Page Up/Page Down, Home/End). You can also access any text content by searching the page. Here's how:
    • Activate the search function by pressing CTRL and F simultaneously on Windows, or CMD and F on MacOS.
    • Type the characters you want to find and press Enter until you reach the text you are looking for.
    • Press Esc to position the keyboard cursor on this text.
  10. Forms: Forms are designed to be readable, understandable, and usable with assistive technologies such as screen readers or voice control systems. Input fields are adapted to the type of data expected, and error messages are associated with the relevant fields. However, some errors may remain in pages and components that are currently being corrected.
  11. Text structures: In most content, paragraphs, lists, and headings are used appropriately to make the text more easily accessible with assistive technologies. Due to the large amount of text and the large number of contributors to the site, errors may remain. Those that have been identified are being resolved.
  12. Moving content: Some videos and animations play automatically, and it is not currently possible to pause them. A solution is currently being studied.
  13. Size of clickable areas: Some clickable elements, derived from our graphic charter, do not comply with the latest recommendations in this area. Each of these has been identified and is gradually being modified to provide a sufficient clickable area.
  14. Zoom management: The site is designed to be displayed on any screen size. However, some pages may be difficult to view at high zoom levels. A change in the layout for these display modes is currently being analyzed with a view to finding a solution.
  15. Foreign language texts: Many foreign language terms are used on the site, particularly for product names. For the most part, the information needed for assistive technologies to render them in the target language is not available in the code. Resolving this issue is extremely complex, given our presence in different regions of the world, each with its own particular approach to the pronunciation of our product names. However, this does not prevent the site from functioning or the content from being understood.
  16. Uncontrolled page reloading: On the shopping cart page, any change in quantity or loyalty points used causes the page to reload, which is a major inconvenience for people navigating with a keyboard or a screen reader. A change to this behavior is currently being studied.
  17. Deletion confirmation: On the delivery selection page, deleting an address does not require confirmation and can therefore be accidental (however, it is still possible to re-enter it). A mechanism to prevent this problem is currently being studied.
  18. Color coding: On the customer account management page, the privilege level associated with loyalty points is indicated by a fading of levels not yet reached, which is not noticeable to some people. A workaround will be implemented shortly.
  19. Page titles: The vast majority of page titles describe their content in a relevant way and include the name of the site. However, some customer account management pages have titles that do not allow them to be distinguished from one another. It is therefore necessary to consult the page to find out its content.

Evaluation method

SISLEY had the accessibility of www.sisley-paris.com/en-GB assessed by a specialized service provider. This evaluation was based on a representative sample of pages and content, using specialized tools and various assistive technologies.

The sample includes the following pages:

  • The home page;
  • Product presentation pages (categories, lists, details);
  • Customer information pages (legal notices, accessibility, FAQ, etc.);
  • The site map page;
  • Account creation and management pages;
  • Shopping cart and checkout pages;
  • Store locator and presentation pages.

This assessment highlighted the areas for improvement mentioned above and serves as a basis for managing their resolution.
