Zoë Taylor’s secret to matte lips

Applying matte lipstick without any mishaps requires some skill. Discover the makeup artist’s techniques for professional results.
Matte lipsticks are the best way to achieve smooth and perfectly pigmented lips. Zoë Taylor shares the steps to take for flawless makeup that lasts all day long.
Perfect lips in 5 steps
Step 1: Gently exfoliate
Perfectly smoothed lips
Prepare your lips by gently exfoliating them to remove dead skin cells and leave them looking smoother before you apply your lipstick. As a gentle scrub, Zoë applies Nutritive Lip Balm to the lips before gently rubbing with a face mitt.
Step 2: Moisturize thoroughly
The secret to long-lasting lipstick
Before you start your makeup, apply a generous layer of Nutritive Lip Balm to your lips as a mask. Leave on while you make up your complexion and eyes, then wipe off any surplus before applying your lipstick.
Step 3: Define the lip line
Clean, precise results
Lightly blend a small amount of foundation along your lip line before using a lip pencil to outline your lips.
“I love Sisley lip pencils: ‘Chocolat’ and ‘Ruby’ are my favorites.
Always keep them sharp for clean, precise results.” Use the brush at the end of your Phyto-Levres Perfect pencil to blend the color towards the middle of your lips.
Step 5: Correct
Expert tip
Apply any touch ups or corrections with a cotton pad and a water-based makeup remover such as Eau Efficace. Try not to disguise any slip-ups with a concealer as this may actually accentuate small imperfections rather than cover them up.
