How can I protect color treated hair

Coloring, bleaching and highlighting your hair damages it. It becomes dry, breaks easily and loses its silky feel. It can also lead to a sensitive scalp. So you need a targeted haircare routine that works every day to beautify your hair and calm your scalp. Specialist products offer color protection, without them your color will fade, lose radiance and tone.

Good habits

Protect your hair

Colored hair is particularly sensitive to the elements, the sun, pollution, chlorine and salt water can all damage your hair. So you need to protect it when it is exposed - usually in the summer - by wearing a hat or using color protection. This will help to maintain your color, but also keep your hair and scalp healthy. They’ve already been subjected to damage from the color treatment itself.

Wash less frequently

Washing your hair too often can cause color pigments to fade. For lasting color protection, use specialist shampoo for colored hair, ideally with an acid pH. Don’t wash your hair on the day before or the day of your hair color treatment.

Nourish and repair your hair

Colored hair that has been weakened by the chemical agents in the dye or bleach can become dry and break easily. This means it has greater needs in terms of nutrition and repair, the secret to long lasting, radiant, glossy hair.

Nourishing routine for colored hair

Nourishing routine

Repairs color treated hair

Colored, highlighted and bleached hair needs to be nourished with intense, restorative nutrition. Weakened by chemical agents it can become dry and break easily. To fully nourish the hair, start with an intense pre-shampoo treatment, then use a cleansing product designed for colored hair. After washing, apply a hair mask from the scalp to the tips: this will help to prolong your color and calm the scalp. In the summer or on holiday, add a hair color protection product to your routine. The active ingredients will protect the hair fibres from becoming damaged by UV rays, chlorine and salt water, and also preserve the intensity and tone of your color.

Any questions?

Why does color damage the hair?

Hair naturally has an acid pH. Hair dye has an alkaline pH, so it opens the hair scales, making the hair fibre more sensitive and less smooth.

How can you ensure lasting hair color?

By using a specialist routine to help the hair scales lie flat. You should also wash your hair less frequently and protect colored hair from elements that can cause it to fade, like the sun, chlorine and salt water.

Why is my color tone changing?

Because of oxidation caused by your environment (UV rays, pollution, chlorine etc. ) and repeated washing. And also because by dying your hair you make the hair fibre more sensitive and your hair becomes less able to hold the pigments.

What makes colored hair dry?

The agents used to color your hair are usually alkaline chemicals and this damages your hair scales and fibres. Their impact depends on the dying technique as some techniques are more aggressive than others: semi-permanent, permanent, bleaching, highlights etc.

Can I use heat-styling tools on colored hair?

Yes but ideally only with a heat protection products.

Why do I need to take extra care with colored hair?

To repair the damage cause by the dye, your environment and repeated washing. A formula with a nourishing action helps to seal the cuticle to prevent pigments from escaping, for silky, radiant, glossy hair that's soft to the touch.
