Parlez-vous Beauty?

Sisley’s monthly interview series featuring our favorite movers, shakers and beauty makers.

Stephanie Liu Hjelmeseth

One of LA’s top recognized tastemakers, curating a lifestyle of fashion and romance for the modern woman through her blog Honey & Silk.

1. What is your favorite way to relieve stress?

My favorite way to relieve stress is to brew a pot of jasmine tea. I grew up with the beautiful fragrance and taste, so jasmine reminds me of my childhood. It’s become a morning and nightly ritual to enjoy the process of picking my jasmine pearls, brewing water, adding tea to my gaiwan (a sort of decanter), and decanting the tea into my teacup. It’s a very simple ritual, but rituals are what slow us down and connect us to the present moment.

2. Who has had a major influence on your life or career?

My family and friends whom I hold close to me have each played a role in bettering my life and career, but my husband and my mother are the two that shape me into my best self daily. My mother’s savvy, entrepreneurial mind has inspired me since childhood to pursue dreams, even as unconventional as it can be. My husband never lets me doubt myself and is always encouraging me to take risks, be adventurous, and go outside of the box.

3. What beauty tip was passed onto you by a mentor, friend or family member when you were younger or just starting out in the industry that you still carry with you today?

My mother loves to spend time at her vanity taking care of her skin (it’s no wonder she looks she could be my sister!). She told me that it’s important to take time for your beauty and to give your skin extra TLC. My mother firmly believes in achieving the best skin, so that makeup isn’t necessary. She only wears a touch of concealer and eyeliner every day and looks amazing!

4. Similarly, can you share your favorite beauty advice or tip?

It’s so important to gently massage your face to activate your skin’s natural anti-aging actions like collagen production, oxygen flow, and even lymphatic drainage. This has also become sort of a ritual for me, because it’s so calming and feels so good. It’s easy to incorporate the massage technique into the skincare routine, during the toner or lotion step. I love using a jade roller for the face and Sisley’s mini-roller for the eyes that comes with Sisleya L’integral Eye and Lip Contour Cream.

5. Where do you find inspiration?

I love seeking inspiration in other parts of the world, by learning their rituals and culture of beauty. I also love nature and the smallest rose garden or an epic cliff over the Mediterranean inspire romance and adventure in me.

6. What are the three Sisley products you can’t live without?

The Sisleya L’integral Eye and Lip Contour Cream, Floral Toning Lotion, and the Deeply Purifying Mask with Tropical Resins. They take care of my skin so well, I can’t ever live or travel without them!

7. If you could be in the room with anyone while they are getting their makeup done who would it be?

I would love to see Lauren Bacall’s beauty ritual. I love everything Old Hollywood, it was such a different era of beauty and Lauren Bacall embodied glamour and elegance.

8. What trends can we look forward to in the coming months?

Fall and Winter bring out the darker, romantic colors, so I’m excited to play with antique tones like rose, emerald, and amethyst with ethereal, glowing skin. Clean and minimal beauty is also going to be big this coming season and that means glossy lids, swept brows, and pouty matte lips.
