First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day was born during a time of anti-war and anti-establishment unrest as the nation was beginning to wake up to the perilous state of the environment.
By the end of that year, the first Earth Day had led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the “Clean Air, Clean Water” and “Endangered Species” acts.
Today, Earth Day is the largest secular observance in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people globally. All global companies have a responsibility to their customers to respect the earth and its resources utilized in production.
Sisley-Paris, founded in 1976, just six years after the first Earth Day, takes this responsibility very seriously within the brand's development and production facilities to protect our planet.
SAINT-OUEN L'AUMONE CENTER FOR RESEARCH & CULTIVATION:
In 2011, this center was considered a first in France as it took part in a High Quality Environmental (HQE) certification process, for both its offices and its logistics hubs.
The center features: a reduction in energy demands (exterior insulation, dual-flow ventilation, timed heating, cooling, and ventilation schedule, exterior blinds,) reduction in the consumption of potable water, including rainwater management with harvesting for the watering of plants, optimization of lighting needs (low-energy use lighting, motion detectors…) and sorting and recycling of waste.
Architectural and landscaping quality: 2,000 trees were planted on site and exterior spaces minimize impact on neighboring areas.
Independent of the HQE certification, the site’s roof features the largest solar power station north of the Loire. Covering an area of 387,000 square feet, it is connected to the Energie de France power company network and has a full bituminous waterproofing system with integrated photovoltaic cells: 6,556 photovoltaic modules made up of solar cells.
The power station’s energy production projections are estimated at 726 megawatts/year, covering 100% of the offices’ net energy consumption (25% of the site’s net energy consumption). This is a savings of 44 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
THE FRANCOS PRODUCTION CENTER IN BLOIS:
One of the most modern facilities of its generation, it was designed according to the highest standards of quality control and conforms to both European and American requirements.
This voluntary undertaking is rewarded annually with ISO 14001 (environment) and OHSAS 18001 (health, hygiene, safety) certifications.
A PATH FROM PLANTS TO BEAUTY:
In 1976, founder Hubert d’Ornano was truly ahead of his time in creating a brand focused entirely on harnessing the power of plants for the best in beauty treatments.
Sisley’s expertise in phyto-cosmetology translates to a process that selects the best type of plant in its category, the most effective part of the plant, the country or region where this highest quality plant is located, and identifies the best time to harvest the plant to gain its most effective properties.
